F A Q – Frequently Asked Questions and their Answers

• Why can't I visit the castle?
The moated castle, its park and courtyard are privately owned, and are maintained and occupied by the owner and residents. Naturally, guests and visitors of our residents are always welcome. However, we would like to ask everyone else to respect our privacy and not to enter the courtyard. Imagine if we went cycling through your garden, picnicked on your patio and peered into your living room! Please read "We live here..."

• Aren't there any exceptions?
Only very occasionally – for example on the "Monuments Open Day" or at a special event in the castle. Dates of this kind are published on our homepage and in the local press.

• Are there any animals in the park grounds?
Yes! Fish, horses, pheasants, foxes, tortoises, herons, frogs, birds and lots of ducks!

• Only rich people live there ...
Wrong! There are nice people of all ages and incomes living here. It is ideal for young families with children. We attach importance to a communicative and child-friendly neighbourhood, and maintain a lively and interactive community.

• Isn't the motorway too noisy?
No, the motorway is quite a distance away and, with the woods forming a natural noise barrier, it is hardly noticeable. The birds, ducks, musicians and children in the courtyard are much louder :-)

• Why is the current owner called "zu Inn- und Knyphausen" rather than "von Bodelschwingh"?
If you had paid more attention on our history page, you would know why ...

• I would like to take some photos of the castle. Is that allowed?
Yes, but only from outside. There is an attractive view of the castle from the iron gate by the tower (gateway) or on the footpath into the village. We do not allow photographers on the grounds, nor are wedding photos permitted. If you get a good photo, please send it to us. We would like to publish it in our gallery.

• Do you have any thing to do with the Bodelschwinghschen Anstalten foundation in Bielefeld?
Yes and no. Whilst the founder of the Bodelschwinghschen Anstalten Bethel foundation, Reverend Friedrich von Bodelschwingh (1831-1910), belonged to the Westphalian aristocratic family von Bodelschwingh, he never lived at Bodelschwingh Castle.
